The DisInsider Mailbag – Pooh, Tinker Bell, & Kim Possible

Happy Thursday, I know you are all still going nuts over the first look at Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four. This week we discuss Pooh, Tinker Bell, Kim Possible, and so much more.

Like how the Sony Spider-Man Spinoff Universe is taking a break, should Disney also take a break from its Live Action remakes to make more original content? I think this would be a smart move to give Original stories a chance to shine more.

While I can see what you’re saying and original storytelling is always wanted and needed, we have to remember Disney’s live-action remakes since 2012 Alice in Wonderland have grossed $10 BILLION at the worldwide box office and with Snow White, Lilo & Stitch, Moana, and Tangled on the way, there are no signs of slowing down. That said, original storytelling from Disney is also on the way.

there are rumors about a movie about Gal Gadot’s evil queen from the Snow White remake, is this true?

This is not true and Disney has no plans to explore the character with Gal Gadot further.

Will there be a spin-off about Ariel’s sisters from the Little Mermaid live-action film?

I kind of addressed this last week but no, Disney is not exploring spinoffs or sequels of The Little Mermaid. Not to mention, I do not think the general moviegoing audience would care to see a movie about Ariel’s sisters when they didn’t care to see the live-action Little Mermaid in the first place.

Will the next ‘live-action’ Lion King movie be an adaptation of Simba’s Pride?

No, the creative team behind both 2019s The Lion King and this year’s Mufasa have both said they will not be revisiting Simba’s Pride. I also believe Disney has zero interest in turning the direct-to-DVD sequels into live-action remakes.

Do you think the newer generations of Imagineers are lacking talent compared to their predecessors? Or do you think they’re being limited creatively by corporate leadership and/or lack of budget?

Talent? absolutely not, some of the parks newest attractions have some of the most innovated designs and technologies for example Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure, amongst many others. However, today, Imagineers face more restrictions such as IP-driven designs, shorter development timelines, and of course, what makes profits for the shareholders.

How much do you see the live-action Moana earning at the box office, especially compared to Moana 2?

It is very tricky to predict how a movie will at the box office and the Disney remakes are a big example of that. If you asked me in 2022 how much The Little Mermaid would make at the box office I would’ve told it would $1 billion easily like Aladdin in 2019 and it barely made half of that. That said, Moana has a July 2026 release date, in 2019 The Lion King remake made over $1 billion, so Moana is primed for the Summer box office.

Do you think Tangled will begin shooting this year?

There are production listings that state production will begin later this year. However, given the current status, it is unlikely that filming will commence in 2025. Typically, such large-scale productions require extensive pre-production phases, including finalizing the script, casting, and securing filming locations, which can take several months.

As we know he’s public domain, but when will Disney do another Pooh movie wether it’s animated or live-action?

I have heard whispers that Disney may be developing a live-action adaptation of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (whether it is a full remake or new stories, I don’t know), potentially coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original 1977 animated film. That said, these whispers were long before the studio made executive changes last year and I can not confirm if those whispers have legitimacy.

Will there be more Kim Possible content in the future? Show revival, new live-action movie, etc?

Disney wants to do something with Kim Possible but whether that is a reboot/revival/live-action remake I have no clue. One thing is for sure at some point in the future we will definitely see Kim Possible again.

I have had two questions regarding a live-action Tinker Bell movie (which has since been put on the backburner) but here is what I knew about that project when it involved Reese Witherspoon.

Maria Melnik, who wrote both Escape Room films and American Gods, wrote the script. The unofficial synopsis stated that after Peter becomes gravely injured, “Tink” (as she’s referred to), makes a deal with the head fairy (named Variel Tarin) to save his life. This results in Peter staying a 9-year-old forever and her losing her voice. The story doesn’t end there though. After Peter meets Wendy, Tink becomes incredibly jealous. However, when Hook kidnaps Peter she and Wendy must team up to save him before it’s too late.

While Witherspoon was attached as a producer, she was never attached to star. The studio was looking for multiple iconic Peter Pan characters.

For Tink, the ideal lead being considered is a female between the ages of 30-39.

For Wendy, the studio is looking for a 15-26 year-old girl that is “sweet, a teeny bit chubby, and intense.”

For Peter, an ideal candidate is a boy between the ages of 8-9.

For Hook, the breakdown indicates that the studio is looking for a male between the ages of 20-39.

The breakdown also consists of descriptions for many others including The Lost Boys, as well as two other new and important characters. One is a young girl who goes by the name of Winnie. The other, an older woman by the name of Jocelyn. Their descriptions reveal that the story will be told as a fairy tale in third person. We also learn that Tink’s mother, would’ve appeared, a first in film, as well as mentioning her father and brother.

That’s all for this week’s mailbag, stay tuned as every week a new DisInsider Mailbag will drop.
