Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Remake Put On Pause

Sad news today for Rapunzel fans as it was just announced that the Disney’s planned Tangled remake has been knotted up.

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the Mouse House has decided to put their remake of the long-haired Disney princess on hold. The decision made as a result of the current box office disappointment of their Snow White remake which is playing in theaters.

Snow White suffering at the box office is due to mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, plus the controversies surrounding the film.

Snow White has a budget of $270 million due to delaying because of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

For the last few years, Disney’s live-action remakes haven’t been well received. Yet they have still done fairly well at the box office. One of the best examples is Mufasa: The Lion King grossing around $700 million worldwide having released back in December.

Tangled was in development with both The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey and Thor: Love and Thunder writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson attached to direct and write this adaption. There were rumors that Florence Pugh was in talks to star.

Now, just because it’s being put on pause doesn’t exactly mean its 100% cancelled. Disney still has some other live-action films in development too. They include Moana, which is set to sails in theaters July 10, 2026, and their upcoming Lilo & Stitch which will surf into theaters May 23.

We at The DisInsider have heard that Disney is waiting to see how Lilo & Stitch does in theaters so they can move forward with their live-action projects.

Lilo & Stitch is a massive brand for Disney which Stitch being one of the most popular characters for the company.

Early predictions is guaranteed that Lilo & Stitch will be a juggernaut hit at the box office due to the first trailer breaking records with 158 million views from the first 24 hours after the 2019 Lion King remake which received 224.6 million views from their trailer.

As of now, Tangled will have to wait in its tower to see if Lilo & Stitch will be a box office hit so it can move forward or will this be a slow end for Disney doing their live-action adaptions of their animated library.
