Disney, Lucasfilm Settle Lawsuit With Ex-‘Mandalorian’ Star Gina Carano

This is not a Jedi mind trick!

Both Disney and Lucasfilm revealed today they would be settling a lawsuit filed by former The Mandalorian star Gina Carano. The suit, filed last year, alleged she was let go from her contract for voicing right-wing opinions on social media.

Carano was notably very vocal about her far-right beliefs on Twitter (X) in 2021. In just a matter of a few months, she came under fire for making fun of people wearing masks during the pandemic, making derogatory marks about the Black Lives Matter movement, and even defending Donald Trump’s claims of voter fraud after he lost the 2020 election.

The suit also accused the studios of discrimination and wrongful termination over her firing from The Mandalorian four years ago. Despite her relationship with the studios ending on bad terms, a statement from Lucasfilm made it sound like Carano might be welcomed back to a galaxy far, far away.

“With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future,” the statement read. “We have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies.”

In her own statement, Carano said the deal is the “best outcome for all parties involved” and “my desires remain in the arts.”

Regardless of whether Disney or Lucasfilm thought Carano was wrong or right, their decision to settle was most likely made due to the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, funding Carano’s legal battle – a promise he made to all Twitter (X) users who claimed they had been discriminated against on the platform.

Terms of the settlement, announced on Thursday, have not been disclosed.
