This past weekend, Daredevil actor Charlie Cox appeared at GalaxyCon. While there, he briefly discussed the show but also made a comment which shocked fans.
Hyping up the upcoming second season, he seems to imply that it would also be the show’s last.
“There’s something we do in this final season that doesn’t exist in the comics, so it’s unique to our show,” Cox said.
The internet immediately went into a frenzy. We even posted a clip from the convention on our social media thinking it was definitive proof the long-awaited series was already coming to an end. That is, until Kingpin himself appeared to clarify Cox’s comment.
Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin in the series quoted our post and said:
“I believe Charlie meant the last season we actually shot meaning the second season. Yet he used the term final season so its a bit confusing. But Charlie and i have discussed and we both agree there’s a very good chance for a third season.”
While Marvel has not confirmed – or commented on Cox’s comments – D’Onofrio has doubled down on his belief online in brief exchanges with other fans too.
So either we may not have to say goodbye to Daredevil so soon after all OR D’Onofrio is just trying to keep fans engaged until they second season debuts. Though the future of the series could very well depend on the success of the next season too!
Recently, it was confirmed that Krysten Ritter had joined the second season to reprise her role as Jessica Jones from the short-lived Marvel-Netflix universe. She joins Matthew Lillard as the newest cast members joining the series.
The season has already wrapped filming. While it’s possible it could return early next year, the recently confirmed Punisher Special Presentation could delay its return.
Dario Scardapane, who was an executive producer on Netflix’s Punisher series, is the showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again. Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the directing duo behind Moon Knight and season 2 of Loki have been directing.
