Sad news Aristocat fans, the upcoming live-action remake of 1970 animated musical comedy has been canceled.

The confirmation came from an podcast interview called Score with Oscar winner and musician Questlove himself who was attached to direct the remake back in March 27, 2023.

With Sean Bailey exiting Walt Disney Pictures as president, new leadership has been taking some creative twists and turns with Disney remakes for example, being either shelved or canceled like Sword in the Stone, Bambi, and Tangled.

In the podcast, Questlove talked about the new administration which led the cancelation of The Aristocats.

“A new administration came in and then I was like ,’Okay, well, this is what I plan to do, and dadada, do the song and dance, and here’s some of the music examples and there’s some team I’m working with dadada’.” he said.

Questlove continues, “And then they had another administration shuffle and it was like ‘Okay well. All right’. And by the third time I was just like ‘Maybe this isn’t meant for me, because there’s also, at least like right now, there’s so much options I have in pickings’.”

It’s unfortunate when a project in development gets canceled but that’s a part of the film business.

There’s guarantee that Disney and Questlove will do another project together.

After Disney’s live-action Snow White remake did poorly at the box office, Disney decided to put remakes on the pause button for time being until another remake, Lilo & Stitch made a billion dollars at the box office.

As of now, the only remakes currently in the works from the Mouse House are the Moana remake which is in post-production and set for July 2026, and Lilo & Stitch 2 in development with Chris Sanders writing the script.
