At Disney’s Destination D23, Pixar showcased a first look at Toy Story 5, opening with a sequence nicknamed the “Multi Buzz”: a flotilla of Buzz Lightyear figures marooned on a deserted island after a shipping container washes ashore.
The studio introduced two new toys: Smarty Pants, a potty-training character voiced by Conan O’Brien, and Lilly Pad, about whom few details were shared. Pixar also confirmed Buzz Lightyear will appear in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as part of the Toy Story 30th anniversary events.
Andrew Stanton returns as writer-director, with Jessica Choi producing. Familiar voices — Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), Joan Cusack (Jessie) and Tony Hale (Forky) are back, joined by newcomers Anna Faris, Ernie Hudson and Conan O’Brien. This installment is the first primary Toy Story film made without co-creator John Lasseter, who left Pixar in 2018.
