Todd Helbing Developing Live-Action ‘Mech Cadets’ Series For Disney+

Todd Helbing is taking his skills in creating giant robots to Disney+, as he is developing a live-action adaptation of Mech Cadets.

The showrunner of the upcoming Eragon Disney+ series is developing the series based on the popular BOOM! Studios graphic novel series. The news was first reported by Deadline.

The series, created by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa, is set in a future where giant robot mechs are Earth’s last line of defense against an alien invasion. The series is about a group of young cadets who are unexpectedly chosen to pilot these giant robots.

Helbing’s other credits include developing series such as Superman & Lois, The Flash, and Black Lightning, where he has been involved in developing the popular genre of superheroes in television with a strong focus on developing these characters.

The live-action series is part of Disney+’s growing list of live-action series with strong genre elements. This is another collaboration between Hollywood and BOOM! Studios, as they continue to expand in film and television with adaptations of their popular graphic novels. Mech Cadets has already built its fanbase, but it has recently been in the news due to its animated series Mech Cadets: Black Bar, which premiered on Netflix.
