New Live-Action ‘Cinderella’ Film In The Works At Disney Focusing On Stepsisters

As if Moana or the recent Tangled news haven’t already made it obvious, Disney appears to doubling down on its live-action adaptations. But they aren’t stopping at the classics. They now appear to creating new franchises too.

According to Deadline, the studio appears to be working on a new live-action film set in the world of Cinderella. In fact, the film won’t feature the iconic princess after all. Instead, it will revolve around her sisters! Yes, Anastasia and Drizella (those are their names) are finally getting the spotlight.

The film is tentatively called Stepsisters. While it sounds like an odd idea, it should comfort you to know it will be directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer. Schaffer is coming off The Naked Gun reboot and he previously directed the studio’s Emmy award-winning Chip n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Schaffer will direct and rework the Michael Montemayor’s original script with writing duo Gregor & Mand.

The news comes just one week after Disney announced its intention to make a live-action sequel to its live-action Lilo & Stitch, which will hit theaters in 2028. Our guess is this film will likely come out after that.
