Believe this.
Hot off his Oscar win for Sinners, Ryan Coogler’s next project is building even more momentum.
According to Deadline, Coogler’s reboot of The X-Files has found its second lead. Himesh Patel, who first broke into the mainstream in Danny Boyle’s Yesterday will top the cast alongside Daniel Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall).
The series has recently received a pilot greenlight at Hulu, with Coogler writing and directing. Onyx Collective and 20th Television will produce.
The outlet also reports the series will really be a full reboot as Deadwyler and Patel will be playing new original characters.
Like the classic, this one will once again follow two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents —played by Deadwyler and Patel — form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.
Patel can next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. The two previously worked together on Tenet. He’ll also repreise his role as Dr. Watson in Enola Holmes 3 which comes out on Netflix later this year.
