Rumor: ‘Moana 3’ Reportedly in Development as Dwayne Johnson Expected to Return as Mau

Disney’s journey across the ocean may be far from over.

According to a new report from Collider, Disney is developing Moana 3, with Dwayne Johnson expected to reprise his beloved role as the demigod Maui. While the studio has not officially announced the project, the report suggests the franchise’s incredible success has made another installment all but inevitable.

The Moana franchise has quickly become one of Disney’s biggest modern success stories. The original 2016 animated film became a cultural phenomenon, while Moana 2 proved to be another massive hit, setting the stage for even more adventures. Its post-credits scene also teased larger threats still waiting beyond the horizon, leaving plenty of room for another chapter.

The timing also makes sense as Disney prepares to release the highly anticipated live action adaptation of Moana, which arrives in theaters on July 10, 2026. The film stars Catherine Laga’aia as Moana, with Dwayne Johnson once again bringing Maui to life in live action.

Although Disney has yet to officially confirm Moana 3, the franchise continues to be one of the company’s strongest brands across film, streaming, merchandise, and theme parks. If the report proves accurate, fans may not have to wait long before setting sail with Moana and Maui once again.

As always, we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
