This Week in Disney History (July 12 – 18)

July 12, 1961: Nikki, Wild Dog of the North is released. Happy 65th anniversary!

July 13, 1999: The Walt Disney Masterpiece collection releases its final two VHS tapes in its lineup, Alice in Wonderland and Robin Hood.

July 14, 2010: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is released in theaters.

July 15, 2011: Winnie the Pooh is released in theaters. Happy 15th anniversary!

July 16, 2004: Stuck in the Suburbs premieres on the Disney Channel.

July 17, 2015: Disneyland opens to the public.

July 18, 1993: Heidi premieres on the Disney Channel.

Brief thoughts: The release of Winnie the Pooh marked the end of an era for Walt Disney Animation Studios. It was the last traditionally hand drawn animated film. Disneyland’s opening changed theme parks forever.
