New Gordon Ramsay’s The Carnaby Brings British Flair to Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney’s newest restaurant is more than just another celebrity chef concept. After visiting Gordon Ramsay’s Carnaby twice, we experienced a wide variety of the menu, explored its British-inspired atmosphere, admired its themed details, and even caught Disneyland’s fireworks from our table. Here’s why Carnaby is quickly becoming one of our favorite dining destinations at the Disneyland Resort.

There are plenty of reasons to spend time in Downtown Disney, but Gordon Ramsay’s newest restaurant may be the district’s most vibrant new addition in some time.

Inspired by London’s iconic Carnaby Street—a neighborhood known for its fashion, music, and vibrant culture—Carnaby blends British influences with fresh California ingredients in a space that’s every bit as colorful as its namesake.

We visited twice during the restaurant’s opening weeks—not because one meal wasn’t enough, but because we wanted to experience as much of the menu, atmosphere, and overall experience as possible. Across two visits, we sampled 13 menu items and even found ourselves enjoying an unexpected view of Disneyland’s nighttime fireworks from our table.

After two meals, one thing became clear: Gordon Ramsay’s The Carnaby at Downtown Disney isn’t simply another celebrity-chef restaurant. It’s quickly becoming a destination in its own right.

First Impressions

The white exterior matches the newly-reimagined area around Downtown Disney West, but step inside to find where The Carnaby’s personality really begins to shine.

Inspired by the swinging London of the 1960s, the restaurant feels bright, energetic, and unmistakably British without relying on clichés.

It’s the Little Details

One of our favorite discoveries wasn’t even on the menu.

Throughout the restaurant, British pop culture is woven into nearly every corner. Colorful murals celebrate Carnaby Street’s artistic heritage, while framed concert posters, vintage-inspired artwork, and playful décor reward guests who take a moment to look around.

Even the placemats became conversation pieces – filled with references to British music, fashion, and culture—including a childhood photo of Gordon Ramsay cleverly positioned so that your water glass sits directly over his face—they’re the kind of small design detail that perfectly fits the restaurant’s personality.

Even the restrooms continue the theme, featuring retro floral wallpaper and vibrant artwork that somehow make a quick trip feel like part of the experience.

It’s these little touches that make The Carnaby feel thoughtfully designed rather than simply decorated.

The Atmosphere

The dining room strikes a comfortable balance between upscale and approachable. You are there for a fine-dining experience, but don’t feel like you need to take off your Mickey Ears first.

Warm wood ceilings, colorful artwork, and natural light create an inviting atmosphere that feels equally appropriate for a family dinner, date night, or celebratory meal after a day in Disneyland.

Guests can experience indoor seating and two outdoor patios overlooking Downtown Disney. The restaurant seats 175 guests, from bar seating to large banquet tables.

During our second visit, we were seated in the main dining room with a slight view of the nighttime fireworks from Disneyland. While not every table offers this perspective—and views will naturally depend on your seating location and the entertainment schedule—it added an unexpected bit of Disney magic to an already memorable evening. If you’re dining around fireworks time, it’s worth politely asking whether a fireworks-view table is available.

Starting Fresh

One of the highlights from our first visit was the Carnaby Heirloom Tomato Salad, featuring ripe heirloom tomatoes, juicy peaches, whipped burrata, piccalilli, and fresh arugula.

The sweetness of the peaches paired beautifully with the creamy burrata, while the piccalilli added just enough brightness to keep each bite balanced. It’s a refreshing starter that feels especially appropriate during Southern California’s warm summer months and easily stands on its own as one of the menu’s standout appetizers.

To accompany the meal, we sampled both the refreshing Prickly Pear Caliwater and Lemonade (not pictured), and a Tennent’s Lager, giving us an opportunity to enjoy both the restaurant’s non-alcoholic and traditional beverage offerings.

Elevated Comfort

For our entrées during the first visit, we chose two very different dishes that showcased the range of the menu.

The Roasted Norwegian Salmon arrived beautifully plated atop ratatouille and a side of saffron beurre blanc. The salmon was perfectly cooked with a crisp exterior while remaining tender, buttery and flaky inside. The saffron beurre blanc added richness and creaminess, while the vegetables complemented the dish with fresh seasonal flavors.

Meanwhile, the Carnaby Wagyu Burger offered a more indulgent experience. Layered with smoked cheddar, thick-cut bacon, and truffle aioli, it delivered everything guests hope for in a premium burger. (Our version omitted the lettuce due to an allergy accommodation.) Every bite struck an excellent balance between savory richness and quality ingredients, making it an easy recommendation for burger lovers.

One small surprise came with the table water. Guests can choose from several water options, and we opted for Acqua Panna spring water. While the $10 bottle may catch some diners off guard, it reflects the upscale table-service experience The Carnaby is aiming to provide. We opted for the free tap version on our second visit, and it was just as good.

A Second Vist, More Discoveries

Returning allowed us to experience an entirely different side of the menu.

The Carnaby Nachos arrived piled high with braised short rib, spicy cheese sauce, diced tomatoes, and pickled Fresno peppers. While nachos often lean heavily on cheese alone, the tender short rib elevated the entire dish, making it hearty enough to share while still leaving room for an entrée.

One of the biggest surprises of either visit was the Chickpea Tikka Masala.

Rich, flavorful, and deeply comforting, the curry paired wonderfully with the saffron rice.

The only part of the dish that fell a bit short was the garlic naan. Ours wasn’t particularly warm, and despite its name, it lacked much of the garlic flavor we expected. It felt more like a store-bought accompaniment than something prepared with the same care as the rest of the dish. Hopefully, this is just a soft-open fluke that will be adjusted as time goes on.

Fortunately, the curry itself was excellent and didn’t really need the naan. We’d happily order the entrée again.

A British Classic Done Right

No Gordon Ramsay restaurant would feel complete without Fish & Chips, and their version did not disappoint.

The massive fish featured a light, crisp batter surrounding flaky, tender fillet, while the restaurant’s signature triple-cooked chips were everything fries should be – a satisfying crunch outside with a fluffy interior. Traditional mushy peas and tartar sauce rounded out the dish, creating a classic British meal that felt authentic without sacrificing broad appeal. It is easily one of the best fish & chips we’ve ever had.

Don’t Skip the Drinks

The Strawberry Fields was bright, refreshing, and easily one of our favorite non-alcoholic beverages of either visit.

Meanwhile, the Passion Fruit Royale delivered one of the evening’s most memorable presentations thanks to its passion fruit bubble, which bursts tableside.

Beer lovers aren’t left out either, with imported selections like Paulaner Hefe-Weizen complementing the British-inspired menu.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding Lives Up to the Hype

Before ordering dessert, we asked our servers for their recommendation.

Interestingly, three different members of the waitstaff all gave the exact same answer: the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

After trying it ourselves, we completely understand why.

The warm date cake arrived alongside vanilla ice cream before the warm toffee sauce was poured tableside over the entire dessert. Watching the sauce melt over the ice cream added just enough presentation to make the experience feel special, while the rich caramel flavors balanced perfectly with the light cake underneath.

If you’re only ordering one dessert here, this is the one to choose.

Don’t Miss The Prime Rib Trolley

Although we didn’t order the USDA Prime Rib, we couldn’t help but notice the impressive Prime Rib Trolley making its way throughout the dining room.

Watching the roast being carved tableside added an interactive element that drew attention from nearby guests and contributed to the restaurant’s upscale yet approachable atmosphere. It’s a unique offering that further distinguishes The Carnaby from many other Downtown Disney dining locations.

Final Thoughts

After two visits, what impressed us most wasn’t any single dish—it was how complete the experience felt.

The food was consistently strong. The atmosphere felt polished without being pretentious. The themed details rewarded guests who stopped to look around, and even an unexpected fireworks view reminded us that this restaurant still feels connected to the Disney experience just outside its windows.

The Carnaby doesn’t rely on Gordon Ramsay’s name alone. It earns repeat visits through thoughtful design, quality ingredients, and an atmosphere that invites guests to slow down and enjoy more than just the meal.

As the restaurant has just opened, it is currently only offering dinner reservations. However, its website states that it will soon expand to offer breakfast and lunch menus. All the more reason to come back!

*An important note before we sign off: they do validate parking!

So whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for one of Downtown Disney’s newest dining destinations, The Carnaby is well worth adding to your Disneyland itinerary.
