Within the last couple months we have heard Disney is moving ahead with a sequel to their 2014 reimagined Sleeping Beauty hit Maleficent. Star Angelina Jolie confirmed that she would be returning to her villainous? role, and now it looks like we have a familiar name in talks for the directors chair.
According to Deadline Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales helmer Jøachim Ronning is in talks to direct the sequel.
Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton had been working on the script for producer Joe Roth.
Disney seems to love working with Ronning because it is also confirmed that Ronning will also return for Pirates 6.
Dead Men Tell No Tales ended up making $794.1M worldwide for the studio, dominating the Memorial Day weekend this year with a $69.2M opening weekend.
Maleficent, which dropped during the same weekend three years earlier broke records its opening weekend of $69.4M and went onto to make $758.5M worldwide.
No word yet on the release date for Maleficent 2 or if the rest of the original cast will return.

Definitely not excited for Maleficent 2! And I haven’t seen Pirates 5 yet, so I can’t say what I would think of Pirates 6.
