Two weeks ago it was reported that Mary Poppins Returns helmer Rob Marshall was Disney’s top choice to direct the studios live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. Well now additional crew has been added and it looks like Marshall has officially signed on to direct the film from a a script written by Jane Goldman (X-Men: Days Of Futures Past, Kingsman).

Oscar winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (Collateral, Edge of Tomorrow) has been added to the crew, Beebe has worked with Marshall on Chicago, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Into The Woods, and most recently Mary Poppins Returns hitting theater Christmas 2018.

the film also added four time winning Oscar designer Colleen Atwood (Alice In Wonderland, Fantastic Beasts, and most recently Tim Burton’s Dumbo). Atwood also worked with Marshall on Chicago, Memoirs Of Geisha, and Into The Woods.

two time Oscar winner John Myhre (X-Men, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) will oversee production design.

Editor Wyatt Smith (Doctor Strange, Mary Poppins Returns) will edit the film.

Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will team up to compose the music for the film, as well as add new songs to the film.

Disney hopes to get The Little Mermaid cast by the end of 2018 and set for production in 2019. As of right now there is no release date set for the film.
