Entertainment Weekly have released two brand new photos for Disney’s live-action adaption of Winnie The Pooh Christopher Robin. The photos offers us our first looks at the characters of Piglet, Eeyore, and Tigger. As well as new looks at Pooh and Ewan McGregor’s Christopher Robin. Take a look at the images below.
Ewan McGregor who will star in this film spoke about his role:
“In those older stories, [Christopher Robin] purveys a lot of wisdom through the way he deals with Pooh. Pooh and Eeyore run through a lot of philosophical questions, and Christopher Robin is there to answer them somehow. And I think, largely, he’s just lost any of that childish wisdom and he’s a bit stuck. He’s just very work-minded and doesn’t have any time for play. I suppose that’s what the film is about: finding his relationship with his younger self again.”
He also speaks about Robin’s trying to be the good guy and do the right thing working in the world as a banker:
“I like that about him, that he is fighting for a greater good, not just for his own ego. It made sense, if he’d been through the war experience, he would just have experienced being responsible, literally, for men’s lives. And now he’s come back and he’s responsible for men and women’s livelihoods.”
Hayley Atwell also stars as his wife Evelyn. She spoke a bit about her role in the film as well:
“She’s worked in schematics. She designed planes. So, she was active in the war in that regard and had her own career,” This new man that returns from war represents the loss of the man that she married, but she sees him change when Pooh the bear comes back into his life. But, of course, she thinks he’s gone mad.”
We also get to see Pooh (Jim Cummings), Tigger (Chris O’dowd), Eeyore (Brad Garrett), and Piglet (Nick Mohammed). The seems like it will be heart-warming and amazing. The thing about the animals is that Christopher Robin is the only one that can see them. To everybody else, these animals look stuffed. I’m sure bringing these characters to life was a dream come true for director Marc
Forster.
This was him speaking on the characters and how they work into the film:
Other people can see Pooh and the other woodland creatures. But they perceive them as stuffed animals. It’s not that they’re invisible. He’s a mixture of toddler and old man when you read the books and watch the animation. He has these Poohisms that land, but they are totally absurd. It always reminded me a little of Peter Sellers’ character Chauncey Gardiner from Being There.”
Jim Cummings returns as the voice of Winnie the Pooh, and is joined by
the likes of Chris O’Dowd as Tigger, Brad Garrett as Eeyore, Nick Mohammed
as Piglet, Peter Capaldi as Rabbit, Toby Jones as Owl, and Sophie Okonedo
as Kanga.
Hayley Atwell plays Christopher Robin’s wife, Evelyn, and their daughter
Madeline is played by Bronte Carmichael. Mark Gatiss plays Giles Winslow,
Christopher’s boss. Christopher works for a luggage company. The film takes
place in 1940s London when Christopher returns home from World War II.
The film is directed by Marc Forster (Finding Neverland).
Christopher Robin hits theaters on August 3, 2018.
