Lizzie McGuires’ Family Is Returning For The Disney+ Series

Well, it is official Lizzie McGuires’ family is returning for the upcoming Disney+ reboot. As original cast members, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas are set to reprise their roles as Jo, Sam, and Matt McGuire.

The announcement of the reboot came during the studios big Disney+ presentation that highlighted the material coming to the streaming service with Hilary Duff making an appearance sharing small details including, that series will follow Duff back in the shoes of Lizzie as she lives it up in New York City with her dream job and her dream boyfriend who owns a pizzeria. But she is still haunted by her 13-year-old animated self.

It’s not currently known at this time if other cast members from the original series will reprise their roles. However in a recent interview with Vulture, Duff confirmed that Lizzie’s childhood best friend-turned-love interest Gordo played by will not be by her side. So it remains to be seen where the original cast stands. That said the show’s original creator Terri Minsky is returning to oversee the revival.

“We are incredibly excited to bring back one of the most popular Disney Channel series of all time along with some beloved and familiar faces,” said Ricky Strauss, president, Content & Marketing, Disney+. “With Terri at the helm and Hilary, Hallie, Robert, and Jake back after all these years, it’s our honor to welcome the McGuire family into the Disney+ family.”

“Just like there is no Lizzie McGuire without Hilary Duff, there is no McGuire family without Hallie, Robert, and Jake,” said Gary Marsh, president, and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. “The original series holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we can’t wait to introduce fans, both old and new, to an older, wiser, yet still perfectly imperfect Lizzie.”

Production on Lizzie McGuire will begin later this year in Los Angeles California, with the hopes of a summer 2020 release.
