Exclusive: Disney Is Developing ‘Tom Sawyer’ Film For Disney+
Disney is developing a new Tom Sawyer film that will head exclusively to Disney+, The DisInsider has learned. The film has tapped up-and-coming writer Max Maduka and will be Overseen by studio exec Lauren Abrahams.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas (Lion King) previously portrayed Tom Sawyer in Disney’s Tom and Huck, while Danny Tamberelli (All That) also portrayed the character for a cameo in Disney’s The Adventures of Huck Finn.

Tom Sawyer has been around the Disney company for quite some time. They opened Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island at Disneyland in 1956, which is surrounded by the River’s of America. In later years, the other Disney Parks opened their own versions of the Island, which have all been successful.
The character was created by legendary writer, Mark Twain in 1876, which follows a young boy named Tom Sawyer going on various adventures. He has become an instant classic character, appearing in other various books and films.

The story is GOONIES in tone, each told from a different character’s vantage point with flashback stories to their experiences with Tom, who is missing.
