Dave Filoni Rumored to Oversee ‘Star Wars’ Live-Action “Connected Universe” on Disney+

June 16, 2020Skyler Shuler

A new report from LRM Online says that Dave Filoni is being tapped to oversee a connected universe of Star Wars series’ with a central storyline.

The Mandalorian was a massive success for Disney+, the streamer has already wrapped production on the highly anticipated second season, with a third already in early development, so it is not surprising that Disney and Lucasfilm want to expand on their Star Wars content on Disney+. According to LRM Online, the studio is drawing inspiration from the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

Reportedly the connected universe will be comprised of multiple series including The Mandalorian, a live-action Ahsoka Tano series, starring Rosario Dawson (makes her debut in season two of The Mandalorian), a live-action Boba Fett series, a live-action Ezra Bridger/Grand Admiral Thrawn series and an unannounced series which I’m led to believe is the series being developed by Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland.

As of now, Lucasfilm has yet to confirm this news, LRM Online has a decent track record, but it should be taken as rumor now. Many insiders have reported on some of these series recently and Filoni is expected to be a big part of Lucasfilm’s plan moving forward, so don’t be shocked if this news gets confirmed down the line.

With new casting additions including, Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth, Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan, Michael Biehn and Sasha Banks in unknown roles. They join a returning cast that includes Pedro Pascal as a titular bounty hunter, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Emily Swallow as the Armorer, Bill Burr as Mayfeld, Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon.

Directors Peyton Reed (Ant-Man films) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) are also newcomers to the series. Favreau and Weathers will also make their directorial debut on the series alongside season one returning directors Dave Filoni and Rick Famuyiwa.
