We were lucky to see an advanced IMAX screening of “Everest: The Other Side,” an EPIC documentary film from National Geographic & Disney. To see this incredble mountain on IMAX was incredible and the only way to see this film. Before we get into the review let me throw this in really quick, since I was young, I always wanted to be an photographer for National Geographic. And as an adult even more a cinematographer! It would be the coolest job ever.

So first off, here’s some information on the film. “Everest: The Other Side” is an intimate portrait of two people bound by love, ambition, and the pursuit of the impossible, from National Geographic Documentary Films and Oscar®-winning filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. A thrilling cinematic experience chronicling one of the most dangerous climbs imaginable. As of October 30th, the film is now exclusively in theaters and IMAX® worldwide.

Watching this film the theme that kept coming to my mind was that this was an insane love story! The love of a couple. The love of their children & family. The love of adventure & thrill seeking. The love of hope & dreams. And the love of friends, tribe, and honor. Life’s real storylines can really tug on the heart strings as well as get your heart going with adreneline and excitment. Plus the intense moments were some of the most heart pounding sights I’ve ever seen on the big screen. Courtney summed it up perfectly, a quote from the MCU’s “Avengers: Infinity War- “What is grief, but love percervering?”

Without any major spoilers, the main plotline is a story about elite ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson. Who fell deeply in love while reaching the pinnacle of their sport. Their drive sharpened into a shared dream: to climb and ski the direct North Face of Everest – the most difficult and dangerous climb on the mountain and the most coveted ski line on earth. Thousands have summited the mountain via Nepal’s southeast ridge, but only a handful have ever reached the top by this route — and no one has successfully skied down. Already known for their extraordinary feats in the mountains and no strangers to loss, Morrison and Nelson stake everything on this daunting challenge.

I highly recommend seeing this film, especially on IMAX! It was truly epic and a sure bet for another academy award for the filmmakers.

I give major praise to the filmakers and all involved! “Everest: The Other Side” is directed and produced by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, and produced by Shannon Dill, Anna Barnes, Bob Eisenhardt, Janet Yang.
