Keke Palmer Joins ‘The Proud Family’ Disney+ Reboot

Back in February, when Disney+ officially announced the long-rumored reboot of The Proud Family, the streamer gave it the subtitle, Louder and Prouder. Now, we are have new news on the project.

On Thursday, Disney+ announced that Keke Palmer will be joining the series as a new character named Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins. Maya is described as a “14-year-old activist” who is “extremely mature for her age” and “relentlessly marches to the beat of her own drum.” She and Penny apparently clash at first but eventually earn each other’s respect.

Palmer shared her excitement regarding the announcement on social media, stating “Dreams come True!”

Picking up the story of its central character Penny Proud, the new series will also include her madcap family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and her grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!). Of course, it would not be “The Proud Family” without Penny’s loyal crew Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez and Zoey Howzer, among others.

Reprising their voice roles are Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez. Cedric the Entertainer will also return as Uncle Bobby Proud.
