Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series Will Reportedly Begin Filming Next Month

A couple of weeks back reports surfaced that the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series was expected to start filming early next year. Now, a new report has surfaced and filming may begin sooner than expected.

According to Making Star Wars, their sources have informed them that the production will be doing some exterior filming at the ”train yard” in Southern California sometime next month. The train yard is where Lucasfilm/Disney did a lot of exterior filming on the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, which was used as the setting for Tattoine. Making Star Wars believes the set will double for Tattoine on Kenobi.

The site also reports Pinewood Studios UK is under the impression that Kenobi is still coming to their studio, so it is unknown how much filming will take place in Southern California at this time. There has been talk that Kenobi and the Cassian Andor Rogue One prequel series could overlap filming at Pinewood Studios.

Earlier this year, producer Joby Harold (John Wick Chapter 3) was brought on to rewrite the script. Deborah Chow, who received praise for her directing duties on The Mandalorian, is set to direct all episodes of Kenobi. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will produce along-with Chow, Jason D. McGatlin (The Rise of Skywalker), Tracey Seaward (The Queen), and John Swartz (Rogue One).

Not much is known on the series at this time; however, earlier reports revealed that Kenobi would take place eight years after Revenge of the Sith. Former writer, Hossein Amini‘s version of the script reportedly featured appearances from a young Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, again, the new script could change all that. There has been speculation that the series could overlap with Solo: A Star Wars Story and possibly bringing back Darth Maul.

There are also reports making the rounds that Hayden Christensen will return as Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader in the series. It is unclear how big of a role the character would have, but the role would apparently feature flashbacks to their time during The Clone Wars.
