Disney+’s Sister Act 3 could finally start producrion this year. Director Tim Federle, who is doing press for his latest Disney+ feature Better Nate Than Ever shared the update this week.
“I hope we are starting this year. I think the ‘Sister Act’ franchise is a big priority to the (Disney) studio scripts coming along and I think Whoopi is really excited.”
Scheduling seems to be the only thing getting in the way of production. In an interview with Collider, Tim explained, “Now it’s just about schedules and chips falling where they may. [Scheduling] is literally everything.”
Whoopi Goldberg is already signed on to return. The third movie in the Sister Act series comes nearly 30 years after Goldberg first starred as Deloris or as we come to know her, Sister Mary Clarence, the lounge singer turned singing nun. Keke Palmer has hinted at a possible role in the movie.
Tim Federle (Ferdinand, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) will direct the project with Madhuri Shekar (The Nevers) writing the script. Goldberg will produce alongside Tyler Perry, Tom Leonardis.
