To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, Sunday video game developer Square Enix unveiled a special video which wound up actually being the trailer for two new Kingdom Hearts projects.
The video, which you can view down below begins off with a new mobile game titled Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link. At the end of the trailer, it’s revealed that a closed beta will be available to IOS and Android users “later this year.”
Shortly after, the trailer for Kingdom Hearts IV – yes, you read right – appears.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the game is expected to be released, or what platforms the studio is planning to release it for; however, an official press release gives fans the game’s premise:
In the announcement trailer, Sora makes a triumphant return with an updated look at the beginning of an epic new storyline titled the “Lost Master Arc.” Beginning with Sora facing off in a boss battle against a giant enemy, players are introduced to the Quadratum, a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the KINGDOM HEARTS series. Fans will be excited to see the return of Sora’s well-known companions Donald and Goofy, in addition to the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new setting.
Given the franchise is known for its ability to blend Disney properties into its storylines, the possibilities for the next installment are truly endless. Could we see a potential Marvel/Star Wars crossover? We’ll just have to wait and see!
