Taika Waititi Reveals His Next Film ‘Next Goal Wins’ Comes Out in 2024

Taika Waititi’s next non-IP-based film Next Goal Wins, from Disney’s Searchlight Pictures, has completed production. This led many to believe the film could release later this year. Well, according to the director, that is not the case.

Dani Mantilla of EL ESPAÑOL shared a quick video from an interview he conducted for the Spanish site. While doing press for Thor: Love and Thunder, Mantilla brought up his excitement for Next Goal Wins, to which Waititi revealed its coming in 2024. “Yes, next year, I know it’s ages away, I can’t believe it, I’m pissed.”

Next Goal Wins follows Dutch-American football coach Thomas Rongen, who is tasked with turning the American Samoa national team, considered one of the weakest football teams in the world, into an elite squad and qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Michael Fassbender will star as Rongen, alongside Elisabeth Moss, Kaimana, Beulah Koale, Rachel House, Uli Latukefu, Rhys Darby, and Will Arnett, who replaced Armie Hammer in reshoots. Waititi co-wrote the screenplay with Iain Morris. The film is based on the 2014 documentary of the same name by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. Composer Michael Giacchino (Lightyear, The Batman), who worked with Waititi on Jojo Rabbit, is set to score the film.
