What do the halls of William McKinley High and the clinic at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital have in common?

Come this fall, the Glee alum will graduate to the cast of ABC’s long-running primetime drama Grey’s Anatomy. According to Deadline, the actor will play one of five new residents joining hospital named Daniel “Blue Kwan”.
The character is described as “sharp-witted, impatient, and brilliant…generous by nature, competitive to a fault, and used to winning at everything.” His arc will explore a how a family crisis previously interfered with his career plans. As the site puts it, “he’s got a lot to prove.”

Additional freshman actors include Adelaide Kane (The Purge), Alexis Floyd (Inventing Anna), Niko Terho (The Thing About Harry), and Midori Francis (The Sex Lives of College Girls).
This is Shum’s last stint on TV since he starred on Freeform’s Shadowhunters. He can currently be seen in A24’s hit multiverse movie Everything Everywhere All At Once.
The 19th season of Grey’s Anatomy will premiere ABC this fall.
