From Pam & Tommy to The Dropout and evenThe Girl from Plainville, Hulu’s been on a role this year with its semi-autobiographical content. And the streamer is showing no signs of letting up with the new series Welcome to Chippendales in the works.
Previously titled Immigrant, the series tells the true story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the Indian-American entrepreneur who started Chippendales, as well as the insane, darkly comedic, crime-ridden story behind the unique male revue that became a cultural phenomenon.. Academy Award-nominee Kumail Nanjiani stars as Banerjee. He’s joined by Analeigh Ashford (Bad Education), Robin De Jesus (Tick, Tick, ….Boom!), Nicola Peltz Beckham (Transformers 4: Age of Extinction), Dan Stevens (Legion), and Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets).
While the series is expected to air later this year, thanks to Vanity Fair, we’ve got our very first look. You can check out some of the photos down below!

Speaking with VF about his role, Nanjiani described how it is unlike anything he’s done before – even after having to get “buff” for Eternals. The actor says, “[Banerjee] is lot stiffer than I am—he’s disconnected from his body, coiled really tight.” He explains that he eventually developing back pain from how stiff he played the character, and how he struggled to separate his emotions from his performance. “The body doesn’t know the difference between you doing a sad scene and you being really sad in real life,” he said. “I’d never done this kind of work.”
