Since its opening in 2016, Shanghai Disney Resort in Shanghai, China, has been one of Disney’s biggest success stories, so it’s no surprise that Disney has been focusing their efforts on expanding the resort. The theme park is already working on the first Zootopia-themed land, and it seems that Disney is planning another major expansion for its second-largest resort.

The Shanghai Disney Resort has been home to the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and the Toy Story Hotel since its opening day, and with space saved for plenty more future offerings. According to a report on the Chinese social-networking website Weibo, the Shanghai International Theme Park Supporting Facilities has ordered tenders for a proposed third hotel.

Although we don’t know the hotel’s name or theme, thanks to the original poster (SouthernSkyD23), we do know that it will likely be constructed beside the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, which means it could be another deluxe resort. We also know that it will become the largest hotel on the property, with an area of 48,000 square metres. Larger than both of the current hotels.

Although not officially confirmed, we could see an announcement next month during the Disney Parks panel at D23. As for the hotel’s opening date? It’s hard to say, but according to the original post, construction is predicted to take 35 months. So, if construction starts in the new year, it’s possible that we could see the hotel open sometime during the resort’s 10th-anniversary celebrations in 2026/2027.
