Rian Johnson’s ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy is Still on the Table

Almost five years after Star Wars: The Last Jedi, director Rian Johnson is still very interested in tackling his own trilogy. In an exclusive interview with Empire, Rian looked back on his time with Star Wars and what the future might hold. He talks about his closeness with Kathleen Kennedy and when his trilogy may arrive.

“It’s just at this point a matter of schedule and when it can happen. It would break my heart if I were finished, if I couldn’t get back in that sandbox at some point.”

Rian Johnson

Contrary to what many might believe, it looks like Johnson is still extremely interested in the Star Wars universe. However, like most theatrical projects for the series, it seems to be in flux. Johnson is currently extremely busy with Netflix working on two Knives Out sequels including Glass Onion, which premiers later this year.

Although Rian Johnson’s project may be awhile away, we still have theatrical Star Wars projects to look forward to. Taika Waititi’s project is expected to film next year and Patty Jenkins’s Rogue Squadron is coming soon as well.
