EXCLUSIVE: Details About Chris Hemsworth’s Confrontation With Death In Disney+ Series ‘Limitless’ Revealed
Last week, Chris Hemsworth revealed that he would be taking time off from both acting and the entertainment industry after learning that he has a strong genetic susceptibility to Alzheimer’s disease. Hemsworth discovered the diagnosis while filming an episode of his new series Limitless.
Produced by Hemsworth and Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan), the National Geographic series follows the actor as he literally tests his physical, mental, and limits through a variety of tasks such as swimming the Arctic Ocean or fasting. It’s an exhilarating series that shows the world a brand new side of the actor who has spent the last decade playing one an immortal God.
Interestingly enough, in the final episode titled “Acceptance,” Hemsworth decides to face mankind’s most inevitable adversary: death. Without spoiling anything, Hemsworth is given the chance to face mortality in more abstract and psychology ways than in previous episodes. And he is only able to do so thanks to the coaching of real-life death doula Alua Arthur.
Now, the DisInsider’s Editor-in-Chief Dempsey Pillot was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to sit down with Alua this week. In the interview, she discussed how got her start as a doula and what it was like to advise some like Hemsworth, who comes across as so confident on the big screen.
She explained that one particular conversation that the two had while filming, that wasn’t captured on camera, “endeared her to him.”
She said, “His concerns about his death are much like any anybody’s concerns about their death, despite the fact that he’s very muscular and literally plays an actual God…because we think ‘Here’s somebody with all the fame and all the money and dashingly good looks and big muscles and beautiful wife and great kids. And at the end of the day, he’s still incredibly human.”
Additionally, she told us that, despite the series revolving around Hemsworth, it has a much bigger message that anyone can relate to. She says that although Hemsworth has such a beautiful life to show for, it’s no different than any other life. If there’s one thing she hopes viewers take away from the series, it’s that “we need to honor the person who was selling the flowers on the corner, just like [we honor] our most famous people on the planet.
