Dan Tractenberg’s Predator prequel Prey was a massive hit for Hulu and was well-received by critics and fans. Well, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios is fast-tracking two project new projects in the franchise with Tractenberg spearheading both.
According to Deadline, Tractenberg is writing and directing Badlands, a brand-new standalone movie in the Predator franchise. The studio is hoping to kick off production this year and are already in the process of casting its lead actor.
Additionally, the studio is in the very early stages of development on a sequel to Prey that would return to the films original setting and with the films breakout star, Amber Midthunder, potentially returning.
Prey premiered at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21, 2022, and was released by 20th Century Studios as a Hulu original film in the United States and on Disney+ Star internationally on August 5. The film was very well-received by critics, with praise for its action sequences, Midthunder’s performance, cinematography, Trachtenberg’s direction, and the Indigenous casting, with many critics calling it the best Predator installment since the first film.
