Taylor Swift is the biggest name in entertainment, so of course the biggest company in entertainment wanted the streaming rights for the biggest concert event of the decade. However, it came with a big price Disney hopes pays off.
According to Puck News, The Walt Disney Company agreed to pay $75 million for the exclusive streaming rights for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Disney won the heated bidding war, which had Netflix and Universal in the running.
The film premiered at The Grove in Los Angeles on October 11, 2023, and was released to theaters worldwide on October 13. It was met with significant ticket demand, amassing a record $37 million on its first day of pre-sales in the U.S. and over $100 million in total global pre-sales. The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert film of all-time, earning $261.6 million worldwide.
Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) will debut on Disney+ March 15, 2024. The movie will include the song “cardigan” and four additional acoustic songs.
