For those hoping for a new adventure with Benjamin Gates are in for some disappointing news.
While speaking with ScreenRant, Nicolas Cage revealed that a National Treasure 3 is not in the works, despite franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer alluding to one in the past.
“Here we go! See, you’re the one that brings these things up and they go out and they eclipse everything else. No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
Cage did say back in 2022, that he wasn’t sure a third installment would ever due to the now-canceled Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History. Despite Cage’s recent resurgence with films like Pig, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and Renfield, he says the phone has stopped ringing for projects like National Treasure and Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Despite what Nicolas Cage may say, the franchise did prove to be a financial success with the two original films grossing over $800 million at the worldwide box office on a $230 million budget. There is a new man in charge at Walt Disney Pictures, so maybe in due time we will see a third National Treasure.
