Patty Jenkins Returns to Work on ‘Rogue Squadron’

Back in 2022, director Patty Jenkins had to step away from work on her Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron so she could focus on Wonder Woman 3. Well, the DC universe is being retooled/rebooted, and Jenkins availability has opened back up.

In a new interview on the Talking Pictures podcast, Jenkins announced that she is back on board Rogue Squadron and is currently working on a new script to turn into Lucasfilm.

“When I left ‘Star Wars’ to do ‘Wonder Woman 3,’ and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to “Star Wars” after “Wonder Woman 3,”‘ so we started a deal for that to happen. When ‘Wonder Woman 3’ then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of ‘Star Wars.’ So we will see what happens there. Who knows.”

As of now, Disney/Lucasfilm have yet to green light Rogue Squadron and are now waiting on Jenkins script before any decisions are made. Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying) wrote a previous draft of the script.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy originally announced the project during Disney’s Investor Day event in December 2020. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.
