Lily James is returning to the big screen to star in a movie based on the life of Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd.
According to Deadline, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, the production company formed by Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, are currently in the early stages of pre-production on the untitled pic. Filming is expected to begin in the coming month with James also on as producer alongside the studio.
James will play Wolfe Herd, the co-founder of the widely popular dating app Tinder. In 2014, Wolfe Herd resigned from Tinder and founded Bumble, a female-focused dating app that has quickly become Tinder’s biggest competitor. In February 2021, Herd became the world’s youngest female billionaire when she took Bumble public. She is the youngest woman to have taken a company public in the United States, at age 31.
Rachel Lee Goldenberg is directing the film from a script written by herself, Bill Parker and Kim Caramele. The project will include Gala Gordon as an Executive Producer, and Sarah Shepard will be overseeing the project for 20th Century Studios.
For Disney, Lily James played Cinderella in the 2015 Disney live-action romantic fantasy film of the same name and Pamela Anderson in the Hulu biographical miniseries Pam & Tommy.
