After a nearly year-long battle, The Walt Disney Company and Ron DeSantis have settled their lawsuit over the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
The members of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, who now oversee the operations previously managed by Disney’s Reedy Creek, approved the terms of a settlement on Wednesday with the entertainment company. This agreement marks the resolution of the ongoing legal dispute, which was initiated by Disney last year.
Disney says, “This agreement opens a new chapter of constructive engagement with the new leadership of the district and serves the interests of all parties by enabling significant continued investment and the creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs and economic opportunity in the State.”
The legislation passed in 2022 prohibits teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity in the early grades and was strongly supported by the Republican governor. He frequently targeted Disney in his speeches until he halted his presidential campaign earlier this year.
The district offers various municipal services including firefighting, planning, and mosquito control, and has been predominantly influenced by Disney supporters throughout its fifty-year history.
