‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Eyes $54M-$61M’ Box Office Opening

20th Century Studios’ newest chapter in the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is right around the corner and the newest entry is looking to make a splash at the box office.

Per box office tracking Quorum, the film is looking to open to $54 million-$61 million in its domesic opening. The service reports on six-weeks-in-advance box office projections versus the standard three weeks by longtime tracking firm NRG.

Nearly 300 years after the events of 2017s War for the Planet of the Apes, ape civilizations have emerged from the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral, primitive state. When the ape leader, Proximus Caesar, perverts Caesar’s teachings to enslave other clans in search for remnants of human technologies, Noa, a common chimpanzee, embarks on a harrowing journey alongside a human girl named Mae to determine the future for apes and humans alike.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes stars Owen Teague in the lead role alongside Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. The film is directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison, and produced by Joe Hartwick Jr., Jaffa, Silver, and Jason Reed.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled to be released by 20th Century Studios in the United States on May 10, 2024.
