James Mangold, hot off directing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is reteaming with Lucasfilm on a Star Wars project. Now, the project is full steam ahead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Beau Willimon has been tapped to pen the script to James Mangold’s Star Wars movie tentatively titled Dawn of the Jedi. The project will trace the origins of the Force and be set 25,000 years before any of the timelines and stories told by the movies and shows so far. At this time further details are being kept under wraps.
Mangold is reportedly drawing inspiration from Cecil B. Demille’s Ten Commandments for the project which, as the title implies, will explore the origins of the mysterious power known as The Force.
Mangold is currently directing the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown starring Timothée Chalamet for Disney’s Seacrhlight Pictures. Once filming has completed on the project, Mangold will then focus all his attention on Dawn of the Jedi.
Willimon developed the American version of the series House of Cards, serving as showrunner for the first four seasons. In 2018, Willimon created the drama series The First for Hulu, about the first crewed mission to Mars. He also was a writer on the first season of the Disney+ series Andor, for which he earned an Emmy nomination.
