As someone who quite often takes to Twitter and Instagram to answer Disney questions, I though it would be fun to a bi-weekly [could change] mailbag here. The goal here is to answer some burning questions from fans about The Walt Disney Company and its many outlets. So, let’s dive in!
What happened to Tower of Terror with Scarjo?
Seems like forever ago when we reported that Taika Waititi would direct the project with Scarlet Johansson attached to produce and star. Unfortunately, this might not come to fruition at this time, if ever. There is a new man in charge at Disney’s movie division, and from everything I have heard, the studios vision is new original storytelling and prexsiting successful IP (ala Pirates of the Caribbean, Tron). Should be noted this film has never been officially shelved but put on the back burner for now.
You think the new Disney Studios lead could bet on videogames adaptations like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy or Fortnite after the success of Super Mario Bros, The Last Of Us, Twisted Metal, Uncharted, Free Guy, Sonic, etc??
Well, to get one thing out the way, Disney is developing an animated Kingdom Hearts movie. While years back I had heard the idea was to do something on Disney+, more recently I have heard the goal would be big screen adaptation, but as of now, these are just rumblings and nothing has been greenlit. Disney may have more of an interest on actual gaming instead of developing movies based on video games… Prince of Persia and Need For Speed were both duds for Disney.
Why did Pixar’s Elio get delayed to June 13, 2025? which I actually heard that Pixar wasn’t happy with the movie and that’s the reason why they delayed it to 2025
Simple answer I can give here and what I was told I couldn’t confirm at this time was that this movie was looking like the next Good Dinosaur and Pixar wanted to get ahead of it, especially after a string of box office disappointments with Lightyear and Elemental.
Regardles if D23 studio showcase will be livestreamed or not, do you personally think that Disney during the convention will release more first looks and trailers than the previous 2 years and also when could we expect trailers for mufasa, snow white and the premier trailer of Born Again?
The D23 Expo has always been tough to predict but I’d imagine the one big trailer everyone will get to see is Snow White. Mufasa is about 8 months away, they have loads of time but I could easily see a small teaser dropping in the next month or so, especially with all these massive summer blockbusters coming.
How likely is it we’ll get all 5 seasons of Percy Jackson?
While Disney+ doesn’t tend to reveal streaming numbers for their original programming, however, In total, the series was streamed for 110 million hours over seven weeks on Disney+ and Hulu. Percy Jackson and the Olympians was the most streamed original television series across all platforms [which includes Netflix and Amazon] in the United States during the weeks ending on January 28, 2024, and February 4, 2024. Season 2 is already in the works, it’s a safe bet Disney+ will continue with their hit series.
If you had to put odds on each of the 4 Disney Division heads to be the next CEO, what would you say?
There are a lot of great candidates who could succeed Bob Iger in 2026, while I personally think Disney will look outside for their next CEO, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences is in a prime position to takeover. 22 years experience in the company means a lot in this space.
What’s up with the Treasure Planet and Atlantis live-action movies, or are they still in development?
These two movies were never officially in development, both were talked about. At this point, I think it is very unlikely we see anything new in terms of Disney developing remakes, especially based on projects that didn’t do well financially in the first place.
What’s the status of Tiana tv show? do you think for next 4 – 5 years, Disney Animation will do other adaptations of classic tales (I remember the rumored Princess and the Pea) or only sequels?
This project has had many hurdles, COVID-19, script rewrites, and crew changes. Now, we are the heels of a Princess and the Frog renaissance with Tiana’s Bayaou Adventure getting set to open at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Resort. Well, to add some new fuel to the fire, I was told just last month that the Tiana series may receive the same fate as the Moana series and instead be reworked as Princess and the Frog 2. As of now, that should be taken with a grain of salt.
Keep your eyes peeled for another mailbag post for your chance to get your question answered.
