Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been making waves with his updates on the next installment on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Now, he has given us an update on another popular Disney IP.
While speaking with The Direct for Producer’s Guild Awards (PGA), Bruckheimer has revealed that they are actively working on National Treasure 3.
The film is “coming along quite well” he says, adding that they are “working on the script for it“.
Chris Bremner (Bad Boys for Life, Bad Boys: Ride or Die) is penning the current draft of the script.
Released in 2004, National Treasure followed Ben Gates (Cage) and his team (Bartha and Krueger) as they race to find the legendary Templar Treasure before a team of mercenaries. The film grossed $347 million at the worldwide box office. This led Disney to release a sequel titled Book of Secrets which grossed an astounding $447 million worldwide.
In 2022, a spinoff Disney series titled National Treasure: Edge of History debuted to generally mixed reviews from critics. It was among the ten most-streamed original programs in the U.S. from its first week, before it reached the top 5 in its later weeks. The series was cancelled after just one season.
