‘Cruella’ and ‘Freakier Friday’ Producer Andrew Gunn Passes Away

Andrew Gunn, a longtime film producer behind multiple hit Disney movies has sadly passed away at the young age of 58.

According to his family, Gunn died from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which he developed in 2024, at his home in Toronto.

Gunn had a first look deal with Disney and helped develop some of Disney’s biggest projects, including The Country Bears, Freaky Friday, The Haunted Mansion, Sky High, College Road Trip, Bedtime Stories, Race to Witch Mountain, Cruella, and Freakier Friday.

Not only did he develop big Disney IP, but he was also a promoter for young talent. In 2001, he launched the Disney Writers Program, choosing five emerging, unproduced screenwriters each year to mentor and develop. The initiative helped jumpstart the careers of writers such as David Berenbaum, known for Elf and The Haunted Mansion; Matt Lopez, who penned the 2022 remake of Father of the Bride; and David DiGilio, later a co-creator of The Terminal List.

Gunn is survived by his children, his wife Jane Bellamy Gunn, mother Anne Gunn, and siblings Hilary Knight, Graeme Gunn and Cameron Gunn. He was predeceased by his father, Charles Gunn.
