There has not been many updates on Disney’s live-action adaptation of Hercules. While there have been rumors that Guy Ritchie is not on board as director anymore, that may not be the case.
While speaking to GamesRadar, producers Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Ritchie is still on board to direct. Additionally, the duo are still “waiting on a script” from the Aladdin director.
It should be noted, that despite the Russo’s update, a script has not been turned in and the project remains in limbo. David Greenbaum runs Disney’s movie division now, and the remakes are not something he is looking to continue pumping out, that said he knows they are money makers. My hunch is Ritchie is out still and the Russo’s are just playing coy.
As of now, there is no official synopsis for the project; however, we expect it to follow the animated original, which follows the titular Hercules, a demigod with super-strength raised among mortals, who must learn to become a true hero in order to earn back his godhood and place in Mount Olympus, while his evil uncle Hades plots his downfall.
Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) wrote the initial script. As of now, there is no release date set for Hercules. If the project moves forward more will be revealed this Summer at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event. Stick with The DisInsider as we continue to cover this project and more from The Walt Disney Company.
