ABC series Not Dead Yet, is certainly not living up to its name anymore as the Gina Rodriguez-led show is in fact dead.
The network has decided to discontinue the comedy series featuring Rodriguez, after its second season. This decision comes after the show garnered the smallest viewership among ABC’s three half-hour comedies this season, with an average of approximately 3.2 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings, excluding streaming numbers.
With this cancellation, ABC’s 2024-25 schedule currently features only two comedies Abbott Elementary, set to enter its fourth season, and The Conners, concluding its seventh season. Additionally, the network has two comedy pilots in consideration, starring Tim Allen (Shifting Gears) and Ty Burrell (Forgive & Forget). However, decisions regarding these pilots are expected to be made following next week’s upfronts event.
Not Dead Yet, created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, features Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, a woman who finds herself working as an obituary writer following a personal crisis. Nell’s job becomes complicated when she discovers she can communicate with the deceased subjects of her obituaries, who often offer her advice. The show also stars Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela Gibbs, and Brad Garrett (joining in the second season).
Based on Alexandra Potter’s novel “Confessions of a 40-something F**k Up,” the series is produced by 20th Television. Executive producers include Windsor, Johnson, Rodriguez, Dean Holland, McG, Mary Viola, and Corey Marsh of Wonderland Sound and Vision.
