A new poster for Disney’s Moana 2 was released today (May 28th).
The poster features Moana in the background. Standing in a pose we’ve seen her previously in the teaser trailer for the film. Instead the poster has her ore and Maui’s fishhook front and center. We can see the drawing of a heart and fishhook Maui left for Moana at the end of the first film. We can see the extremely beautiful drawn decals on Maui’s fishhook, whether or not there’s new ones for the second film is unclear.
Initially planned as a mini series for the streaming service Disney+, Moana 2 expands our young wayfinders horizons. With a new crew of seafarers, and a new look, now 19 year old Moana embarks on a journey with Maui to the far reaches of Oceania, navigating dangerous and treacherous waters after receiving a call from her ancestors.
Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Dwayne Johnson (Maui), and Alan Tudyk (Hei Hei) will be returning to reprise their respective roles. Moana Art Director David G. Derrick Jr is returning to the sequel as the film’s director. A live action remake of the original animated film is also in production.
With the release of this new poster, Disney Animation has also released a statement. The first full trailer for Moana 2 releases May 29th. Moana 2 is set to release November 27th 2024.
