Julia Butters in Talks to Join ‘Freaky Friday 2’

Julia Butters is in talks to join Disney’s highly anticipated Freaky Friday 2, The InSneider has learned.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the original, were also in talks to return, though the studio has not officially confirmed any of its cast, including Curtis and Lohan. As to who Butters is playing, we’ll, that’s being kept under wraps at this time.

Late Night and Welcome to Chippendales director Nisha Ganatra to direct the project. Production is expected to begin in Los Angeles this Summer.

Andrew Gunn, the producer of the 2003 movie, is collaborating with former Disney executive Kristin Burr on the upcoming project. It is currently uncertain whether the film will be released in theaters or make its debut on Disney+. Both “Hocus Pocus 2” and “Disenchanted” found success on the streaming platform.

The franchise includes various versions, such as the original theatrical release featuring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster, a made-for-television adaptation, a theatrical remake, a Broadway musical, and a Disney Channel Original Movie adaptation. The core theme of the franchise revolves around the concept of parents and their children swapping bodies. Initially, they struggle to understand each other’s perspectives, but as each installment unfolds, they grow to respect one another and gain deeper insights.

The 2003 remake, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, received positive feedback from both audiences and critics. It achieved significant commercial success, earning over $160 million worldwide, while being made on a modest budget of $20 million.
