Disney is revisiting the world of Holes!
According to Variety, a Holes series is in the works at Disney+ and has already been picked up for a pilot. In this reimagining of the beloved 1998 book from Louis Sachar, a teenage girl is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.
Alina Mankin is the writer and executive producer, with Liz Phang taking on the role of showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard will executive produce through his company, Goddard Textiles, alongside Sarah Esberg. Walden Media, the production company behind the original film, is also producing the pilot and has long been working to adapt the book into a series. Mike Medavoy will executive produce, with Shamrock, the rights holder, also involved as an executive producer. Andrea Massaro of Goddard Textiles joins as a co-executive producer, and 20th Television, where Goddard is based, serves as the studio.
In 2003, Disney released a film adaptation on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar. The film starred Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Patricia Arquette, Tim Blake Nelson, Eartha Kitt, and Shia LaBeouf. The film grossed over $71 million on a $17 million budget.
