Four years after the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Studios is reportedly finally ready to pass on the torch of T’Challa aka Black Panther.
According to The InSneider, The character could be reintroduced through the multiverse, presenting a new version of T’Challa. According to the newsletter, with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans potentially returning, “the door is wide open for T’Challa to be recast using the multiverse’s magic.” This approach might allow the character to appear in future films like the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.
Following Boseman’s passing Marvel opted not to recast the role for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but instead pass the mantle of Black Panther to Letitia Wright’s Shuri, a decision that sparked debate amongst fans.
Now, that the multiverse has been introduced through Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Deadpool & Wolverine, this has opened the doors for the possible recast and the newsletter stated that Marvel already tried reaching out to an actor to take on the role.
“I heard that an actor was actually offered the role this past fall, a couple of months after Downey’s big reveal at Comic-Con, but they turned it down, not wanting to jeopardize their career momentum by stepping into Boseman’s gigantic shoes, which may be too big to fill, even for Hollywood’s most talented Black actors.”
While not 100% on the slate, we already know the studio is in early development on Black Panther 3 with Denzel Washington already a part of the project. Franchise director Ryan Coogler is back for the third entry and is supposedly very much a key person in the T’Challa recasting search.
