We’re still a few years out from a live-action adaptation of Disney’s Tangled, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from spinning.
Just last week, industry insider Daniel RPK revealed that Kathryn Hahn was being eyed to play Mother Gothel in the film. Now, it appears that another actress has emerged as another contender too: Jennifer Lopez.
Unlike RPK’s initial claim, this rumor seems to have been sparked by none other than Lopez herself. The buzz first started to come build when an outlet (fittingly called) Where Is The Buzz? first put out an article pointing out Lopez’s interaction with multiple posts suggesting her involvement in the film.

But the rumor got even more traction when the well known Twitter (X) account Pop Crave tweeted out the information as well.

So far, there has been no actual indication that Jennifer Lopez is being sought for the role, or that she is involved in the film. In fact, as of this post, Disney has not confirmed the casting of any actor in the film at all.
Still, there’s no shame in Lopez’s manifestation. After all, it did work for Samuel L. Jackson with the Star Wars prequel trilogy and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson with pretty most of his Disney projects too.
Currently, Jennifer Lopez can be seen in Unstoppable, the true story about Anthony Robles, a wrestler who was born without a leg and overcomes obstacles to eventually become a NCAA Division I wrestling champion. Her role in the film is just one of many that proves she has the acting chops and range to do just about anything.
With all that being said, what are your thoughts on the award-winning singer and actress potentially joining the film? Sound off below!
For those who may not remember, Mother Gothel was the film’s likable antagonist who was both a mother figure to Rapunzel and her captor. Hahn is no stranger to the House of Mouse as she plays Agatha Harkness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Currently, The Greatest Showman filmmaker Michael Gracey is in talks to direct with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder) writing the script.
Tangled was a hit with audiences and critics alike, would go on to make over $590 million at the worldwide box office, and would become the most successful Disney animated feature film since The Lion King in 1994, both financially and commercially. The film would also start a brand new movement for the Disney company in terms of aesthetics and marketability similar to how The Little Mermaid impacted the Disney Renaissance.
