It’s been less than a week since Marvel’s Thunderbolts* hit theaters. Still, the studio is finally unveiling the true meaning behind the title’s asterisk.
SPOILER WARNING BELOW FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT SEEN THE FILM YET — SERIOUSLY!
In a video posted to Twitter (X) this morning, the cast can be seen pulling the title off of a poster and unveiled the film’s real title.

That’s right. The film is really called The New Avengers.
The announcement follows Marvel’s previous guidance about waiting at least two weeks before posting spoilers. The studio and the Russo Brothers set the precedent when Avengers: Endgame came out, urging people to wait two weeks before spoiling Tony Stark’s death.

Thunderbolts* or The New Avengers follows a group of antiheroes from several other previous Marvel stories as they are caught in a deadly trap and forced to work together on a new, dangerous mission.
Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Olga Kurylenko, as Yelena Bolova, Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, Ghost, US Agent, Val Fontaine, Red Guardian and Taskmaster respectively.
Lewis Pullman also joins the cast as Sentry. Additionally, Geraldine Viswanathan has been cast as de Fontaine’s assistant.
