‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway’ in The Works at Disney+

Disney+ is moving forward with their fourth animated film in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise.

The studio is currently casting a new actor to take on the voice Greg Heffley for Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Getaway, which is based on the 12th book in the series from author Jeff Kinney.

The film is expected to follow the book, which centers around Greg and his family flying to a resort called Isla de Corales for Christmas. The Heffleys go there because that was the place where Greg’s mom and dad went for their honeymoon.

Muppet Babies producer Matt Danner takes over directing duties with Jeff Kinney writing and producing. Production is expected to begin in the next few weeks with hopes of a 2026 release on Disney+.

The first film, Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2021), reimagines Greg Heffley’s middle school misadventures from the original book with new animation. This was followed by Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules (2022), which focuses on Greg’s rocky relationship with his older brother, Rodrick. Finally, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever (2023), follows Greg as he desperately tries to stay on Santa’s “nice” list after accidentally damaging property at his school.
