Free speech isn’t dead after all.
After mounting protests and criticism, ABC has announced that it would be lifting the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show.
Their official statement reads:
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”
The network originally pulled the plug on the program last week amid concerns about comments the comedian said on-air about the murder of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.
Disney’s decision came months after CBS pulled Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” for comments made about President Trump. But it’s just the latest example of both networks bending to the knee after also settling two separate lawsuits with Trump (even though many legal experts believed they would not have held up in a courtroom).
Many public figures and celebrities including former President Barack Obama and former Disney CEO Michael Eisner condemned the decision:
The show will officially return tomorrow evening! His opening monologue will definitely be one for the history books!
